New Delete Final Backup setting for the default 30-day retention policy
Retention settings assure that the necessary recovery points are available on your appliance. Appliances are configured with a default backup retention policy of 30 days. This 30-day policy is applied to each protected asset. For appliances imaged with release 10.7.11 or higher, the 30-day default retention policy enables the appliance to purge any backup that is no longer held by the policy.
If needed, you can opt to retain an asset's last available recovery point by unchecking the Delete Final Backup box in the Edit Retention Policy dialog. For details, see Managing retention with long-term data management.
NOTES
● The 30-day default retention policy applies to appliances imaged with release 10.7.8 or higher. This default policy does not apply to appliances that were originally imaged with an earlier release. Release 10.7.8 was generally available on September 6th, 2023.
● The Delete Final Backup option was added to the 30-day default retention policy in release 10.7.11. For appliances imaged with release 10.7.11 or higher, Delete Final Backup is enabled for this default policy. To enable this feature on older appliances, check the Delete Final Backup box when adding or editing a policy.
● Upgrading an appliance does not modify its retention policies in any way.
● Holds applied to individual backups override the asset's retention policy. Once the backup is no longer on hold, it is eligible for deletion by the policy. (For more on holding backups, see Placing backups on hold.)

Re-pairing of Windows and Linux agents
You can now use the Re-Pair button on the Configure > Protected Assets tab to establish a secure pairing between the asset and its appliance.
Re-pairing requires the asset to be in pairing mode. The 10.7.9 Windows agent includes an agent pairing utility you can use to enable pairing mode for a specified amount of time, known as the pairing window. For Linux assets, you can use the instructions in the Unitrends Agent Pairing - Linux KB article to enable pairing mode.
After enabling pairing mode on the asset, use the Re-Pair button to:
● Add the asset to a Unitrends appliance. (For example, use to add the asset to one or more appliances after the initial 25-hour pairing window has closed.)
● Re-establish pairing between the asset and the appliance. (For example, use if the asset's pairing status changed to Failed due to an error condition.)
● Establish pairing between the asset and the appliance after upgrading the agent from an older version that did not support pairing.
For detailed requirements and procedures, see Secure agent pairing for Windows and Linux agents.
Copy backups to your Azure environment
Addressing customer requests, we now support copying backups to Azure blob storage. This addition provides greater flexibility in choosing cloud storage solutions to suit diverse needs. Simply add the Azure Blob storage container to your Unitrends appliance as a backup copy target, then add a job to copy backups to this container. For detailed requirements and procedures, see Backup copy targets.
Service update for backup copy to third-party cloud targets
This release includes a new backup copy format that supports Azure and more resilient S3:
● Enhanced format for new S3 buckets – Beginning in Unitrends release 10.7.9, newly created S3 buckets will automatically adopt an improved format. This new approach enhances resilience, especially in handling service disruptions, ensuring more reliable data management.

Secure agent pairing status
You can now view an agent's last secure agent pairing status on the Configure > Protected Assets tab. The asset's pairing status is updated when a backup runs, during an inventory sync, or any time the asset is re-saved. You can refresh the pairing status that is displayed on the Protected Assets tab by manually re-saving an asset or performing an inventory sync.
Pairing statuses include:
● Paired – The agent has been paired.
● Failed – The agent is not paired. Hover to see the error message. One of these errors has occurred:
● The client cannot be reached.
● The agent pairing time window has expired.
● The agent can’t save pairing keys.
● The agent pairing request failed.
● Unsupported – Pairing is disabled or the agent pairing version is not compatible.
● N/A – Not applicable for this asset.
● Remote – This asset resides on a managed appliance. Log in to its appliance directly to see the asset's pairing status.
30-day retention policy
Retention settings assure that the necessary recovery points are available on your appliance. Beginning in release 10.7.8, appliances are configured with a default backup retention policy of 30 days. This 30-day policy is applied to each protected asset. For details, see Managing retention with long-term data management.
NOTES
● The 30-day default retention policy applies to appliances imaged with release 10.7.8 or higher. This default policy does not apply to appliances that were originally imaged with an earlier release. Upgrading an appliance that was imaged with a pre-10.7.8 release does not modify its retention policies in any way.
● The 30-day default retention policy ensures that 7 daily backups and 4 weekly backups are retained for each protected asset.

Linux agent and support for new Linux versions
This release includes an updated Linux agent. This agent is required for protection of these newly supported 64-bit Linux versions: Alma Linux 9, Debian 10, CentOS 9, OpenSUSE 42, RHEL 9, Rocky Linux 9, and Ubuntu 22.04.
Automated secure pairing of Unitrends Linux agents
Beginning in Linux agent release 10.7.5, a secure pairing is automatically established between the appliance and the Linux agent on each of its protected assets. This pairing enables Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt data and authenticate connections between appliances and agents. Communication between appliances and agents is only allowed if there is a matching (paired) certificate.
This feature blocks any communication with Unitrends agent software that doesn't originate from a paired appliance (think of a Bluetooth headset, if it's not paired or in pairing mode, no one else can communicate with it). This eliminates the threat of a rogue appliance running backups or code against an agent.
To use the secure pairing feature, these requirements must be met:
● The Unitrends appliance must be running release 10.7.5 or higher.
● The Linux asset must be running agent release 10.7.5 or higher.
● The Unitrends appliance version must be equal to or higher than the Linux agent version.
IMPORTANT Be sure to upgrade your Unitrends appliance before upgrading your Linux agents.
● Jobs will fail if you attempt to protect a 10.7.5 or higher agent with an appliance that is running an older release.
● You cannot add an asset that is running a 10.7.5 or higher agent to an appliance that is running an older release. If you attempt this, you receive an error similar to: Failed to save client: Registration for client assetName failed. The Unitrends System could not connect to the Unitrends Agent on assetName. Please ensure that the Agent software is installed on assetName, the Agent service is running (if applicable), and no firewall settings are preventing access.
● The Linux agent listens for pairing requests on port 888. Ensure that port 888 is accessible on the Linux asset. For details and other port requirements, see Appliance network settings > Additional ports in the Appliance settings topic in the Administrator Guide for Recovery Series, Recovery MAX, ION/ION+, and Unitrends Backup.
● The Linux asset must be running one of these versions:
IMPORTANT Do NOT install the 10.7.5 agent on other Linux versions that are not listed below. Instead, locate your Linux version on the Unitrends Downloads page and install the latest supported agent.

Updated the Windows Preinstallation Environment (PE) used to create bare metal recovery media.
Windows agent push installation
Push installation is now supported for these OS versions only:
● Windows Server – 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 and later versions listed in the Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix are supported. (32-bit versions are not supported.)
● Windows Workstation – 64-bit Windows 7 and later versions listed in the Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix are supported. (32-bit versions are not supported.)
For other OS versions, download the applicable Windows agent from the Unitrends Downloads page and install it manually.
UniView restrict local UI access
UniView now allows users to restrict local access to the Unitrends appliance on the local network. The appliance UI and management functions can still be accessed through UniView. Disabling local access enforces MFA, significantly reduces potential security exposure, and allows admins greater access controls through roles and scopes in UniView.
If this feature has been enabled, this message displays when you attempt to log in locally:
To access the appliance UI, log in to UniView and click the appliance's button:
For details on restricting local UI access, see Disable or enable local network access to an appliance.
